Boyd Cemeteries


The following is the history of BOYD Cemetery (aka Old
Brock Cemetery):
William & Mary BOYD were members of the Methodist Church
at Brock, Ohio. William BOYD donated land for the Old Brock
Cemetery (Also known as BOYD Cemetery). It is located in
the southwest quarter of section 33, YORK Twp. State Rt.
127 adjoins it on the west (1 mile west of Brock, Ohio)
Darke Co. (Ohio Deeds records, Vol. N-2 page 55, Oct. 6,
1851).
In 1840 & 1850, William & Mary BOYD lived in YORK
Twp., Darke Co. Ohio. In 1860, Mary & William lived
in Richland Twp., Darke Co. Ohio, and had a Beamsville,
Ohio post office address. Property value $3,360. Source:

William Boyd to Trustees Burying Ground. Dated 6 October
1851, recorded 28 May 1862. Trustees: John Miller, Henry
Burns, G.D. Kirk, Alexander Armstrong, David Hurculess,
William Boyd and Samuel Hughes. Commencing 24 feet east
of line between sections 32 and 33, Twp.12 Range 3 east
and 40 rods north of S.W. corner of section 33, Twp. 12
Range 3 east "lot for use of buring ground agreeable
to rules of Methodist Episcopal Church". Signed - William
Boyd, Mary (her mark) Boyd. Witnesses: Abygill Locky, Lorenzo
D. Hughes.
First burial from tombstone inscription is:
Willard M. Boyd, son of J.W. & N.A. Boyd, died 29 August
1851.
Please note: When the Old Boyd or AKA Old Brock became too
small, a new cemetery was build south of the cemetery, closer
to the old town of Brock. The newer cemetery is the final
resting place of Phoebe Ann Moses, aka Annie Oakly and her
husband, Frank Butler. Old family story is that the Boyds
were neighbors to Annie when a child.
